You were probably just like the rest of us… pretty darned happy and bit on the proud side. Yeah, back then we thought we could conquer the world. Now we’re too busy conquering our own little corner of the world to pay a lot of attention to the rest of the world… unless it’s to learn a few tips from successful marketers just like us who have made it big. Tips just like these… that will apply to every market – regardless of the product or service – are a great motivators to try something new. Yeah, you never know when the next idea will be worth a million dollars!

1. Create a Special Offer
A special offer is exactly that… an offer that is special. Normally, customers would not be able to purchase this product or combination of products, and once the products are gone… sorry!

You don’t have to go out and order a bunch of new products to put together a special offer. It don’t take a whole lot… just use what you’ve got. Grab a few items that are related, group them together, discount the price, and your customers will be excited to be getting a good deal. Think about it from your standpoint… you’ve sold three or four items rather than one. Yeah, combination offers are winning deals for everyone!

2. Address the Small Customer Groups
Niche markets are everywhere, right under your nose! Within the customer audience that you serve right now are groups of people who share common traits. Think about it… maybe you have a group who speaks Spanish, a group of teens, and a group of middle class family men and women.

Evaluate these classes of people, and discover the unique needs and desires they share. That will set you up to customize your advertising campaign directly to them. It’s not hard to take your current ads, and make a few changes to adjust to the niches. They’ll be impressed that you understand THEM, and the increase in your profits will be the best thanks you can get.

3. Set Up a Winning Referral Program
Successful marketers develop the ability to turn their customers into advocates. Often, they don’t even have to directly ask customers to refer them to others. Their willingness to go the extra wins customer loyalty and support. Naturally, satisfied customers refer their friends and family to the place that will take good care of them.
Quality service and is the first step toward referrals, but you can easily take it one step further. Studies show that every satisfied customer tells three people about you. What would happen with a little incentive added to the picture? Yeah, a lot more. Give customers who refer friends a thank you – whether it’s a discount, special gift item, or a simple thank you card – and watch the referrals spiral!
You can get two birds with one stone by implimenting customer surveys. A few quick questions about what the customer does and doesn’t like about your product, followed by a request for the names and addresses of friends and family who would benefit from the product, and you’re all set to go with the contact information of a prospective customer!

No, you can’t present the engagement ring on your first date! There’s a two-way relationship that grows one step at a time before it leads to the church doors. You can’t rush it… you can’t skip it… if you’re looking for the satisfaction of a life-long commitment.

Getting to know your date, or getting to know your customer takes a little time and effort. The personality, likes and dislikes of each date are different, but customers share some commonalities that you, the marketer, can grab onto. Give them what they want, and they’ll become the loyal, life-time customers that make your business prosper.

1. Forget About Selling… Put The Emphasis On Buying
People like to think that all of their buying decisions were reached due to their own great ideas and skillful shopping. Hey, no one is fond of a pushy salesman. A salesman who “HELPS” them discover the best buy for their buck on the other hand, is a hero.

Really, when a person walks into your place of business, they are most likely thinking of making a purchase before they get there. You don’t have to persuade them to buy. You can take it easy, and simply help them decide what the best purchase is.

Keep your focus on the customer and his needs. Think… what benefits would he be most interested in? What is the price range he can afford? Basically, keep in mind that you are there to serve his needs, not persuade him. Ah, the pressure’s off!

2. Make Purchasing A “Sure Bet”
Buying is a “risky” business. The higher the price tag reads, the higher the risks are! Yep, a customer is just looking for a product that satisfies the needs he purchased it for. The question they ask themselves is… “Is it worth it?”

Hey, it’s a legitimate question. The world is full of scams where you spend your hard earned cash and end up with trash that doesn’t last and that you can’t get serviced. A few tough lessons, leave customers wary about off-the-cuff purchases. They want something they can trust.

A money back guarantee alleviates a great amount of concern in the mind of the consumer. There’s peace in knowing that if the product doesn’t live up to its claims, they aren’t stuck footing the bill for a piece of junk.

Customer testimonials also clearly tell “would be” buyers that you really do deliver customer satisfaction. No one can say it better than a satisfied customer, but don’t carelessly use testimonials. You need a method to your madness. Pick clear and specific testimonials to use, and include as much about the customer as you possible can to lend credence to his testimony.

3. Let Them Know That It’s As Quick and Easy As 1, 2, 3
Simplicy… ah, it makes life so much easier. Yeah, your harried customers are busy and tired. They don’t want to mess around. Most of the time, they just want to make the purchase and head home. Convenience stores testify to the fact that quick and easy often overrides a better price!

Make the buying process as simple as you possibly can. Remember that not everyone prefers the same method. The more options you have available, the more customers you will please.

When you’re planning your marketing campaign, don’t forget to point out the quick, fast, and easy benefits of your product. Remember that value isn’t everything.

It’s pretty easy to charm your customers when you know what they like! Keep these 3 tactics in mind as you go about the daunting task of growing your business and expanding your customer list… and watch your profits go through the roof.

Marketing is simply about getting new customers and keeping them. If you’re not doing something everyday to market and promote your business, your competitors are. Here are ten easy-to-implement tips to effectively market and grow your business:

1. Partner with large email database list owners and offer to cross promote each other. The list owner will advertise your event, product, or service to their email database and you’ll offer to do the same to your list.

2. Create your own blog which is an online journal with frequently updated posts to entertain and excite existing and potential customers. It’s more personal and immediate then a website and keeps people engaged and hopefully coming back for more. You can even create one for free at http://www.blogger.com.

3. If you want to increase word-of-mouth fast, do something beyond normal industry expectations. For example, Mr. Lube offers fast and affordable tune-up service to customers right on the spot, without having to leave the car, while offering coffee, cappuccino, and a fresh newspaper.

4. Always ask happy clients for endorsements or testimonials and put them on your website and other marketing collateral. They’re worth their weight in gold. Try to get some recognizable names in your community for additional cachet.

5. Put a special offer or product advertorial on every invoice and statement you send out. Likewise, you can also negotiate a deal with another company to advertise your product or service on all their invoices for a percentage of revenues from placed orders.

6. Make your business cards stand out and be natural keepers. Offer important information on the back such as emergency phone numbers, a map, or special dates to remember. Have a slogan that offers a powerful benefit statement to your prospective customer.

7. Offer special bonus packages with your product or service offering. Get corporate sponsors to give away products as part of the bonus package in exchange for free exposure.

8. Align your business with a cause or charity. Give back to your community. Customers appreciate doing business with companies that are bettering their communities and the environment and being good corporate citizens.

9. Find an angle that makes your work controversial. The banning of Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, reviewed as “trashy and vicious,” was a blessing in disguise. Twain made a poster advertising the ban, which significantly increased sales.

10. Post frequently in online message boards/forums relevant to your business or expertise. Include your signature and offer tips and valuable advice. Eventually you will begin gaining word-of-mouth exposure as a leader in your field. Posting messages with your company information also helps to increase your search engine rankings and drive traffic to your site.

Make your reader visualize they have already bought your product in your ad. Tell them what results they have gotten and how it makes them feel. They’ll already become emotionally attached before they buy.

2. Turn your ad into an article. It could be a story, or how-to article. This will lead them into your ad without them knowing it’s an ad. They’ll already be interested when they get to your sales pitch.

3. Make sure you show your reader that they are getting a bargain. Tell them the usual price you sell your product for is $99. Then tell them if they order today they can buy it for $69.95.

4. Direct your ad headline to your target audience. Your readers will feel important and belong to a select group of people who buy your product. For example; “Attention! Accountants, Discover A New Way To Increase Your Client Base!”

5. Tell your reader how fast they can receive your product or service in your ad. Their buying decision may be based on how fast they can receive your product. They may need it by a certain deadline.

6. Use bullets to highlight your product or services benefits. Benefits are the key to selling anything, make them standout in your ad. You can use dots, dashes, or circles to highlight them.

7. Give a money back guarantee that surpasses a normal one. Instead of the normal timed guarantee, give them extra back. Tell them they can keep the free bonus or give them double their money back.

8. Tell your reader they’ll receive surprise bonuses. This’ll raise your reader’s curiosity and make them want to buy so they can find out what the surprise bonuses are.

9. Let your reader know this specific package will not be offered again. You must create urgency so people buy now. You may always sell the same product but not with the same bonuses or price.

10. Give them a couple tips in your ad that will help them with their problem. This will give your business credibility and gain your readers trust to buy your products or services.

2. You will become known as an expert on the topics you write about. This will give you and your business extra credibility which will help you compete against your competition.

3. Your article might also be placed on the publisher’s home page. If they publish each issue on their home page this will give you some extra exposure.

Many people rush into business thinking it will be easy to run, but very soon they realize that it is not as easy as it looks. A successful business is a finely tuned machine. In order to keep your business running smoothly it is important to avoid making mistakes.

Here are the 7 most common mistakes to avoid:

1. Not having clear objectives: Many business people start a business without clear objectives. They fail to set realistic goals for their marketing and consequently set themselves up for failure. It is important to make a list of goals and objectives based on a quarterly time line. If you do not have company goals and objectives you are like a car driving without a road map. Make sure all employees are briefed on company objectives. When your employees are not properly prepared you will not be able to achieve company objectives.

2. Neglecting to analyse your potential customers is a dangerous mistake. It can lead to many problems. When you do not analyse your customers wants and needs you do not know what products and services to develop for them. This will lead to targeting the wrong market and neglecting to understand your own niche market. It is important for any business to do their marketing analysis so that you can target your market and maximise your sales.

3. Not testing: By not testing your sales copy and places you advertise with split testing your advertising, you will be losing sales. Split testing is simple to do but many businesses fail to do this. This results in a lot of wasted time and effort. If you do not test your ad copy and marketing promotions you will not have a proper idea of the ads and promotions that are pulling and what is not working. It is simple to do by placing 2 ads for the same product in a publication or website etc. You can then see which one is performing the best.

4. Not budgeting: Budgeting is extremely important in business. Your business should never run out of money. This is especially true with your marketing and advertising ventures. It is important to have a monthly or quarterly budget for your marketing. Within that budget put aside money for each promotion you will be doing. Start small, test and then build on successes. This will allow you to always stay solvent and have enough for promotions.

5. Giving up too soon: Companies go out of business at an alarming rate these days. One of the reasons is that the owners give up too soon. Just when success might be just around the corner they give up and decide to close the business down. In exactly the same fashion marketing promotions can fail. You need to give your promotions at least 3 months before you decide to scrap them. Some promotions will take longer than others to bring results. As always, test all marketing tactics before you launch a larger promotion. Patience is one of the hallmarks of business and you need to implement it.

6. Poor sales copy: How often have you wanted a product but when you read the sales page you had serious doubts? Poor unprofessional ad copy will cost you sales. In fact without good sales copy you will not be able to sell effectively at all. It is critical to your business to get this right. If necessary get an experienced copywriter to do this. It is worth the investment, as you will see returns when you make sales.

7. Not screening your employees carefully: To handle the extra load for the Christmas season you will need to hire new employees. It is very important not to rush into this. There is no dearth of people needing employment but you need to screen them carefully before hiring. One rude customer service agent can cost you customers. Do not take this type of risk. You want to preserve the integrity of your company at all times and screening employees is the way to achieve this. You will then be able to build a core of loyal professional employees that will be an asset to the company.

The golden rule is to diversify. You should always use multiple forms of marketing promotions in your business. Do not just do one or two promotions and then wait for results. This will slow company growth and your business will stagnate. The last thing you need is to slow your marketing in the Christmas season. So remember to diversify and enjoy the increase in sales.

By avoiding these mistakes you will take your company to the success you deserve. You will be able to have year round success for your business and really be able to cash in on the Christmas season. So plan ahead and be careful not to make these common mistakes.

Summary:
Promoting your business is one of the most important things to do to ensure that your company succeeds. However it can be very difficult market your business correctly. Read on to find out 7 marketing mistakes to avoid when promoting your business.

Question Of The Week, As Submitted To “Ask Hari” section of Cash Cow Consultant’s Facebook Page.

Actually the question of the week, this week, comes in terms of a statement. This statement made by Mr Raj reads “I think advertisers don’t realize that advertising online increases their cost. Comment”

Let me try to explain this.

Online marketing is relatively inexpensive when compared to the ratio of cost against the reach of the target audience. Companies can reach a wide audience for a small fraction of traditional advertising budgets. The nature of the medium allows consumers to research and purchase products and services at their own convenience. Therefore, businesses have the advantage of appealing to consumers in a medium that can bring results quickly.

Online marketers also have the advantage of measuring statistics easily and inexpensively. Nearly all aspects of an Online marketing campaign can be traced, measured, and tested.

Therefore, marketers can determine which messages or offerings are more appealing to the audience. The results of campaigns can be measured and tracked immediately because online marketing initiatives usually require users to click on an advertisement, visit a website, and perform a targeted action.

Such measurement cannot be achieved through traditional methods of advertising like television advertising, newspaper advertising or billboard advertising, where an individual will at best be interested, then decide to obtain more information at a later time. Nevertheless, companies are now integrating these traditional methods with a call of action directed to their online presence.

I’m not saying not to use traditional means of advertising just to re-evaluate your current strategy. For instance if you are a property agent, you can be a veteran of 20 years, have many contacts and do all traditional advertising. I have some of the flyers and other stuffs lying around the house I’ll admit. But how am I going to find a house? The Internet is the best option. I merely do a search on Google, Yahoo or Bing. The new generation wants information fast, and lots of it to make an informed buying decision something a one page flyer cannot show us.

I consult with many clients regarding their annual online marketing strategies and plans. Here are some ideas that I relay to my clients regarding online advertising.

1. Identity your objective.

2. Drive incremental sales.

3. Drive leads into sales funnel

4. Engage your leads

5. Build brand, reliability and relationship

6. Convert these leads in to sales

7. Turn the first sales into repeated sales

8. Get referrals from existing clients

As you can see the life time value of a client acquired through online means can be tremendous, which projects to lessening the cost of acquiring a customer considerably compared to traditionally advertising.

Internet has changed the world and search engines have changed the whole landscape of how people search for information and their media habits. With the proliferation of Web 2.0 technologies, there are more and more user generated contents and the viral effect is more important than ever.

As a professional marketer working with IT for over 6 years, I feel that business owners need to understand all these development and leverage on these new Internet / online marketing strategies and technologies in order to be effective.

Maybe you’ve heard some of them: it’s too expensive, it’s not at the top of my “must have” list right now, or even when a deals too good to be true… it’s too good to be true. Customer objections are more easily overcome than you might imagine. Let’s take a look at 3 simple ways to wipe out those objections.

1. It’s Too Expensive.
Don’t be fooled! Most of your customers can get the money to buy the product… it’s not a matter of having enough. Let’s face it… what they’re really saying is that they can get a better deal somewhere else, or a deal that gives them a better value for their buck.

Now, don’t give in to the temptation to drop your prices to “rock bottom” just because you hear them say it’s too expensive. There are ways to wipe out these objections without wiping out your profits!

Make it look like a better deal. I mean, take a really good look at your product. How can you increase the perceived value? Maybe you can add a manual, a CD, or a downloadable book full of information about the product. Let them think they are getting more for their buck, and the deal seems a lot sweeter to them.

Think about this… we all expect to pay more when we visit a specialist. Sure, Wal-Mart is great if we’re looking for a generic product, but when we want something from someone who knows what they’re talking about we head for a market “specialist”… and expect to pay a little more as part of the deal.

How can you become a specialist who demands respect, and can get away with slightly higher prices?

” Find niches within your market to address. Hey, if you look closesly you’ll discover groups within your market that stand out… businessness men and women, young mothers, retirees, etc.

” Dig in, do a little research and figure out exactly how your product relates to the special needs of these niche groups.

” Speak to them as someone in the know. Revise your sales materials to address the specific needs of each group. Let them know you understand what they want and need, and watch your profits skyrocket.

2. I Have More Important Things To Get Right Now.
Yeah, buying now doesn’t seem too important until… the deal’s too sweet to pass up, and you have to get it today to get the deal.

What I’m talking about is banning the option of procrastination. Really what your customer is saying is … I have no reason to buy today. Make the deal irresistible, and put a deadline on it. It’ll spur them into making the purchase a priority, NOW.

3. I’m Skeptical… It’s Too Good To Be True.
Most customers have been burnt by deals that seem too good to be true… they ended up costing more than they were worth. The only way you’ll ever overcome the skepticism is to build a relationship of trust.

Unconditional money back guarantees eliminate the risk of loss, and show the customer that you are truly concerned with their satisfaction.

Let testimonials speak for you. Evidence that you’ve delivered and gained customer satisfaction in the past goes a long way toward banning customer fears.

Be available. Customers feel like everything is okay if they can pick up the phone or send an email and get quick answers to their questions.

It really doesn’t take a lot of rocket science to get through the shell of hard core customers. These 3 tips will get you off to a good start.
